Capture PowerPoint and Capture Main screen

This page will explain the difference between the Capture PowerPoint and Capture Main screen feature for secondary sources on Panopto Recorder.

Capture PowerPoint

Selecting only Capture PowerPoint means that Panopto will record your audio and video along with your slides. Your slides will be saved into the slide deck in Panopto editor. Slides can be swapped out, deleted or added in a slide deck. More information is available at Edit/Trim a Recording.

  1. Select Capture PowerPoint box under secondary sources.
  2. Click the Tab at the top of the screen entitled PowerPoint.
  3. Click Open a Presentation.
  4. Locate your PowerPoint presentation and open it. The pop up will ask you if you want to Begin recording?
  5. Click Yes and your PowerPoint file will open in presentation mode and the recording will start straight away.
  6. During recording you can use F8 for Start, F9 for Pause, F10 for Stop. Exiting the PowerPoint will end the recording.

Capture Main screen

If you are not using PowerPoint for your presentation or need to show something on your main computer screen, then please ensure you have clicked the Capture Main Screen option and follow steps 8-10 in Create Using Panopto Recorder.

If you know that you will need to change tabs to show an external resource, then it is advised you choose both Capture PowerPoint and Capture Main screen options.
