FAQ
Recorded Educational Resources - Review a Recording
In preparation for each academic year, content for teaching sessions must be reviewed to ensure that they remain up-to-date and meet the current legal, University and School standards for delivery.

What am I required to review?
This guidance specifically covers the review of recorded resources (Panopto recordings). However, all teaching material that you have provided which either delivers or supplements the MBChB curriculum, such as H5P activities, Canvas quizzes, files and external webpages on Canvas, should be reviewed in time for a new academic year.

Quality Standards
The following lists the quality standards for School of Medicine recorded content:
- Template Usage: Use the School of Medicine template for all content slides to maintain consistency.
- Duration: Plan to limit recordings to an ideal maximum of 20 minutes to keep content concise and focused (desirable). Individual recordings must not exceed 40 minutes (essential).
- Learning Objectives: Clearly outline learning objectives (LOs) at the beginning of each lecture, ensuring they match the LOs provided by the School of Medicine.
- Key content on slides: Present key points addressing the learning content and that support achievement of the stated learning objectives on the slides, rather than as verbal asides, to ensure accessibility and clarity.
- Interactivity: Incorporate interactive elements and/or links (e.g., Panopto quizzes, H5P, Padlet, YouTube, external webpages) to engage students.
- Audio and Visual Quality: Ensure high-quality audio and visual elements throughout for clear communication. We recommend creating a short test recording before recording your entire presentation, to avoid issues. You should watch your entire recording once completed to check for any pockets of poor quality that you will need to address before submission.
- Closed Captions: Review and correct closed captions in recordings. Support is available if needed; refer to Update/Request Captions on Recordings.
- Annual Review: Conduct an annual review of the lecture recording to ensure it remains up-to-date and relevant, and approve it for reuse if appropriate.
- Feedback Integration: Use student feedback to make necessary changes annually.
- Replacement: Content will undergo an annual review and update to ensure it remains current and relevant, with a more in-depth review and replacement occurring at least every 5 years to align with the latest educational standards and advancements.

Tips for reviewing content
- Increase Playback Speed: Speed up the playback to 1.5x or 2x to quickly review the content. This can save time while still allowing you to catch important details.
- Listen via Headphones: Listen via headphones to identify audio issues more easily, such as background noise, volume inconsistencies, and unclear speech. This can help you ensure the audio quality is optimal for students.
- Use Slide Deck to Navigate: Refer to the slide deck to quickly navigate through the recording. This can help you locate specific sections and review key points more efficiently.
